SAP Defined Keywords

SAP R/3 Keywords
SAP R/3 System has inoduced many Keywords. These
Keywords are frequntly used in SAP System Even In End-user Part also.







  • ALE
    (Application Link Enabling) Application Link Enabling is the tool used for
    data migration Between two System either SAP Server at different location
    or any SAP System Or Client of SAP. This tool enables integration between
    two different systems for data exchange. It Provide full integration
    between two or more SAP R/3 Systems. This tool makes SAP System as
    distributed enterprise applications.  
  • Application
    server In a client-server (SAP R/2/two-tier) environment, which means GUI
    (windows as user machine) & Server for Database Processing, the
    user's machine performs the business logic as well as the user interface,
    and the server provides the database processing. In a three-tier
    environment, an application server performs the business logic, may be
    some part can be handled by the user's machine. In three-tier environment
    Application Server provides middle processing between the user's machine
    and the database system that called as Database Management System like
    Oracle etc..
  • Batch
    Input In SAP System Batch Input Refers as Batch Data Communication (BDC).
    It is the tool for entring the data using user input in screens of related
    transaction in SAP. After execute, screen of this processing are not
    displayed, but can be run in background.
  • CATT
    (Computer Aided Test Tool) CATT Refers as Computer Aided Test Tool is used
    for creating automated test cases in SAP System. It is also used for
    upload or changing in master data of any SAP Module. This is used without
    user interaction.
  • CCMS
    (Computer Center Management System) CCMS Stands for Computer Center
    Management System, is used for Monitoring, Controlling, & Configure
    the SAP System. This is also used for analyzing and distributes client
    workloads.
  • Central
    System Central System is used to run both application and database on one
    computer.
  • Client
    A client is the first field of data in tables that are not system-related.
    It is a grouping of data within one DBMS. In SAP System 800 is the default
    client for providing default database.
  • Client/Server
    System Client Server System is also refered as Client Server Model is a
    distributed application that partitions tasks & work between
    Server(Provider of data) & Client(requester).
  • Communication
    Server Communication Server is to establish connection between local
    system to server system. It can be either a router, a bridge or a gateway.
  • Company code
    Company Code is the smallest organizational unit
    for which we can create a complete set of accounts which can be used for
    external accounting. Using this company code we can also create Balance
    sheet and profit and loss Accounts separately.
  • CSP
    This is called as Complementary Software Program
    to their clients .
  • Dispatcher
    The system R/3 Control Agent that manage all the
    resources present or new for the system.
  • Ethernet
    Ethernet in nothing other that a Local Area
    Network using bus topology. The transmission speed is 10 MBPS.
  • FDDI(Fiber Distributed Data Interchange)
    FDDI is the Local Network using ring Topology and light wave conductors.
    FDDI has transmission speed is 100 MBPS.
  • Firewall
    Firewall is used for restricting access own network through public network.
  • FTP(File Transfer Protocol)
    FTP is used for transferring file from one
    system to another using TCP.IP Protocol.
  • GUI (Graphic User Interface)
    GUI is also called Graphical User Interface, it is used as front end for
    SAP environment.
  • IDES(International Demonstration and Education System)
    IDES is the collection of application data for various business scenarios
    that can be run in the SAP System.
  • IMG(Implementation Management Guide)
    It is a hierarchical structure that reflects the
    R/3 component hierarchy and contains every configuration activity.
  • Instance
    It means application server and each one has its
    own set of work processes.
  • IDoc(Intermediate Document)
    An IDoc is a data container for data exchange
    between SAP systems or between an SAP system and an external system.
  • ITS(Internet Transaction Server)
    It links the R/3 application server with one or
    more Web servers, thus enabling the R/3 to communicate with the Internet.
  • Number range
    A range of numbers that are laid down per file
    for the assignment of document numbers. It can be internal (carried out
    automatically by the system) or external (carried out manually by the
    user).
  • OLE
    It is a technique introduced by Microsoft to
    incorporate objects of one application into another.
  • OSS (Online Service System)
    SAP's Online Service System offers fast and
    effective help for R/3 System problems. It is also the basic element of
    communications between customers, partners, and SAP.
  • RFC
    A way to implement communication between
    application programs via Abap/4 function call.
  • Semaphores
    When a work process locks a resource, it sets a
    semaphore. Another work process that also wants to access it must then
    wait.
  • SysID
    A set of three letters or number that identify a
    system. Some sets are not allowed because they are used by SAP. They are
    informed when the system is installed.
  • Work process
    Work processes perform the bulk of the
    processing carried out by SAP systems. They perform dialog steps in user
    transactions and carry out updates, lock management, printing services,
    and so on.
  • Workbench
    The ABAP/4 Workbench, a graphical programming
    environment, is used to create application programs. The programming tools
    are accessed using buttons, dialogs and windows.
  • Workflow
    It consists of time and logical sequence of work
    items, which are processed by human agents or mechanical processing units.

  • Master Data: Data which seldom changes. data which will
    remain permanent and is less likely to change.
    Transaction Table: Data which frequently changes.
